Waiting Room Exhibition at (Creative Legion) | Good Black Art Summer Residency
During Upstate Art Weekend 2025, (Creative Legion) hosted the opening of Waiting Room — the second exhibition in Good Black Art’s A (Good) Summer Residency, co-curated by Braden A. Hollis and designed by Pablo Olguin.
Exploring the relationship between domestic space and creativity, Waiting Room reflected Hollis’s practice of transforming her Brooklyn apartment into both studio and subject. The exhibition invited visitors to consider how the places we live and work shape our imagination, purpose, and artistic process.
The opening reception on Saturday, July 19 brought together nearly 120 guests, with music by DJ April Hunt, Mai Vino samples, and the Hudson creative community filling the gallery with energy. Captured by photographer William Kaner, the evening showcased (Creative Legion)’s partnership with Good Black Art and our shared vision of connecting artists and audiences across disciplines.
The weekend continued on Sunday, July 20, with two special programs:
A screening and fireside chat with John Campbell, director of Who’s Behind Black Art, offering behind-the-scenes insights into the documentary and its portrayal of the contemporary art world.
An Artist Talk with Julian Adon Alexander, who discussed his debut book Snakes Have Bones and reflected on his creative process.
Both conversations were interactive and engaging, giving attendees a chance to connect directly with the artists and filmmakers shaping today’s creative dialogue.
Waiting Room remained on view through September 14, 2025, extending (Creative Legion)’s mission to foster dialogue, experimentation, and collaboration among artists, curators, and community members in Hudson and beyond.
